Concussion and Brain Health Services

A concussion is an injury to the brain. Up to 90% of people recover within 3-4 weeks with early identification, diagnosis, and management. Some do not recover and have persistent symptoms that need a team approach to manage.

Our concussion management (acute injury management / persistent concussion management) and TBI services are provided by an interdisciplinary team of physicians, neurosurgeons, registered health care professionals including occupational therapists, physiotherapists, kinesiologists and psychotherapists with training and expertise in treating concussions. Depending on the client’s condition and the payor we can tailor a solution for you. We provide care based on the best practices and current research.

Concussion diagnosis, signs, and symptoms

Here are some of the well-documented signs and symptoms of a concussion:

  • Headaches

  • Memory issues and mental fogginess

  • Loss of concentration or ability to multi-task

  • Light and/or noise sensitivity

  • Irritability and/or mood changes

Did you know?

  •  There is no loss of consciousness in up to 90% of cases. You do not need to have hit your head.

  • There are no tests available to diagnose concussion. The only way to be certain is through a clinical diagnosis made by an experienced medical professional. Often CT scans are normal. Brain CT & MRI are used to rule out intracranial bleeding, but are not helpful for the management of a concussion as there is no visible damage to the brain tissue such as blood vessels, grey/white matter, or skull fracture.

Like every person, every concussion is different
